Willslejog Day 39

My room had been so comfortable that I had a bit of a lie in and only left at 6am!

The route started with a long steady climb out of Invergarry. The climb was quite pleasant through pine forests with occasional glimpses of Loch Oich.

The route levelled out along the towpath of the Caledonian Canal to Fort Augustus. Although I did not need anything, I was so happy to have found a shop, I could not help but to buy a few snacks simply for the sake of buying!

For most of the morning, it had rained, but once it cleared, the sun was out occasionally.

After leaving Fort Augustus, the climb through pine forests seemed to carry on forever. A fork in the path gave me a choice of the high road or the low road! Naturally I straight away chose the low road as I really felt that I had done my fair share of climbing since the start of Willslejog!

Both routes ran parallel to Loch Ness, but neither close to the shore. One could not often have clear views of the loch as most of the time, trees and vegetation were in the way. Ever so often, if one is high enough or a gap appeared between the trees, beautiful views of Loch Ness suddenly opened up.

I had booked two cabins at Ancarraig Lodges near Drumnadrochit for three nights as Lorinda and Alex had driven from home over two days to support me over the final hurdles to John O’Groats.

When I arrived at the lodges, they had already settled in. How wonderful it was to see them knowing they would be with me every evening for the rest of Lejog.

As the lodges are self catering, we drove to Inverness for dinner and the necessary shopping.

I had my family back! Happy days!!
